Overview

“OUTSIDERS: energy is inside” is a lighting performance that was staged in Oakville (Ontario, Canada). The performance is a fiction on the theme of ENERGY, particularly, how and what kind of energy inhabitants of other planets, called Outsiders in our project, use to survive. To represent this idea visually Nargiza, the author, decided to make the aliens full of light. The main point is that the energy is actually found inside of us and it is the foundation of our livelihood. In our story, Outsiders came to Earth not as invaders but highly intelligent creatures with a lot of knowledge to share with humans. As just arrived, they are exploring our planet at different locations illuminating surroundings by their lights. However, if there is another source of energy, for example, the Sun, they are not shine anymore. Maybe they are charging at this moment or they are feeling sorrow because it is limited. We don’t know…

OUTSIDERS: energy is inside

How it's made

And there was light…

The idea of the performance started growing after our previous lighting project. Nargiza continued experimenting with led lights and zip-ties. On first stage it resembled a caterpillar shining in a dark.

Playing around

Outsider's birth

It was good starting point but we lacked an idea to make future project looks more alive and attractive. So, we decided to play around the most actual problem on Earth, the problem of energy. Thus were born our aliens that are coming on Earth to share their experience of using energy. We named them Outsiders. The main point of the idea is that the energy is actually found inside of us and it is the foundation of our livelihood.

Location scouting

Place is matter

While Nargiza was working on outsiders outfits, Maxim was googling for photo shoot locations. And when the last zip-tie was attached, there was only one important thing to do in our preparation: to get out and visually assess the shooting locations. Uniqueness and water for a reflection were our main requirements to places.

Behind the scene

Getting ready... Action!

We have done three separate photo shoots in three days at different locations in Oakville (Ontario, Canada). Here, we present our second session day in the beautiful Lions Valley Park.
